Professor Chen Qiubo

Dr Chen Qiubo, a native to Guangdong Province, China, received his first degree in English Language in 1976 from the South China Normal University, a Diploma in Tropical Agronomy from the South China College of Tropical Crops in mid-1980s, a second degree, MSc in Agricultural Environment and Development from the University of East Anglia, UK in 1993, and the third degree, PhD in Siviculture from the Nanjing Forestry University, China in 2002.

As a researcher in rubber sciences and tropical agronomy and the environment, Dr Chen, as a highly productive scientist, has published over 70 papers and over 10 monographs. He has completed over 20 research projects and made good achievements. Dr Chen has participated in IRRDB activities ever since early 1980s when China joined the IRRDB. He has been served as IRRDB Board member since 1996. He has been the active organizers for the 1983 IRRDB Annual Meetings and Conference held in Beijing, , the local organizer for 1990, 1999 and 2004 IRRDB Annual Meetings and Conference as well as a few Seminars that took place in China.

Dr Chen was promoted to the Associate Professorship in 1994 and full Professorship in 1998 by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences(CATAS) & the South China University of Tropical Agriculture(SCUTA). He has been the Vice President for Researches and International Cooperation for both CATAS and SCUTA since 1998. apart from administration and research activities, Dr Chen has also been an academic advisor for MSc candidates and PhD candidates. For out-campus academic activities, he has been very active in a few scientific fields and is member of a variety of international and regional scientists associations. He has been the Vice Chairman for the China Society of Tropical Crops, for the Hainan Society of Botanists, and for the Hainan Society of environmental Sciences. Dr Chen was elected Vice Chairman of IRRDB during the 2004 IRRDB Board Meeting on 10th September 2004, Kunming China. Upon his election, he expressed his desire and efforts to make IRRDB more a family, a strong and close family so as to benefit all IRRDB member countries and the world natural rubber industry.

Professor Chen Qiubo was elected Chairman of the IRRDB during the IRRDB Board Meeting held on the 17th November 2006 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
