Dr Jean-Louis Jacob

During 1994 the IRRDB Medal Committee chose Dr J-L Jacob as the first recipient of the IRRDB Gold Medal: the presentation was made in Paris in May 1995. Dr Jacob has worked for CIRAD-CP and the former IRCA for 27 years during which time he has made substantial contributions to the progress of research on the physiology and biochemistry of Hevea latex as exemplified by over 120 papers he has authored or co-authored. To quote from the submission made on his behalf, "his work on the concept of latex diagnosis has enabled plant physiology to be placed in the service of planters".
