Automotive Industry

The automotive industry tends to dominate the rubber industry, both directly (as in the original equipment tyres and many other elastomeric items fitted to the car during manufacture), and indirectly: in terms of replacement items (tyres, wiper blades and to an ever-decreasing extent other items). With the exception of tyres, engine mounts and wiper blades (where natural rubber retains a significant market share), many of the items are made from synthetic rubber, although more natural rubber could be used (in blends) in extruded weather seals. Some items used in the engine compartment are manufactured from high value synthetic rubbers (e.g. hose for air-conditioning, engine seals, etc)
